syntags - a unique taxonomy of joy by color, material, structure and form.

SYNTAGS – At first glance, Giulia Mouse’s works are simply a source of joy.
You almost want to exclaim “Joy to the gods”, because all of her pictures seem light, cheerful, giving happiness – kissed by the muse.
If art has such an effect, it is because the pictures quickly enter our mind-set.
We recognize or find in the works, structures, forms or reflect associations that are linked or stored in our minds with pleasant experiences.
Once consciously or unconsciously linked, the result is what we simply perceive as “beautiful”.
Giulia’s pictures have the key elements for this approach and therefore have a particularly intense effect.
They find their way into our mind set very quickly.
“A successful work of art is a moment of complete joy. It’s about bringing beauty into dark corners”, the artist herself manifests, thereby setting high standards for herself and her art.
However, achieving this is not that easy and requires a great deal of artistic work.
“For me, painting is a balancing act between free emotion and controlled mastery. If there is disharmony or excess weight, this is transferred to the painting surface and leads to weakness and imbalance. You have to sweat, so to speak, practise letting go, being patient, correcting, recalibrating, breaking through walls, opening doors.”

In order to better understand this approach and thus the effect of her works, it is imperative to take a closer look at the artist herself and the nature of her oeuvre on the following pages.
Her abstraction, her use of color, the structure, the material, her form and, last but not least, her pictorial themes interact to create a unique syntax – a language, by which I mean not just a pictorial language, but an “alphabet” that can be understood universally.
An alphabet that provides each picture with a kind of label.
Admittedly, a label that is not necessarily identical for every viewer, nor does it necessarily correspond to the artist’s thematic intention.
But it involuntarily suggests itself.
In “newspeak” this is called a “tag” and so it is no coincidence that we have given Giulia’s works a label ourselves and combined this as syntax and tag to form “SYNTAG”.
We use our own symbol for this syntag and show our syntag associations to Giulia’s pictures on the following pages.
If you accept the syntag mind game, a fascinating process arises in the mind of the viewer.
The artist’s works are suddenly catapulted from the projection of the painting ground into the “here and now”, becoming set pieces of the real existing environment.
Art becomes everyday presence and vice versa.

twelve - more than just a symbol.

The magical 12 beer lines.
Decisive and perfect.
The 12 is the symbol – the zero point of this transformation – like 12 o’clock as the separator of the day, usually symbolized by 12 beer lines, but also in many other forms of expression.
Because there is not just one reality.

"I paint according to the intention of my picture. Sometimes full of power, sometimes very devout. That's why painting always involves intensive preparation. The mood of the subject must be in you. Otherwise it won't be a painting.

mongi higgs

Mongi Higgs’ art condenses the “quantum foam” into a “reality” in which creation is revealed in its original form.
Luminous, clear and clean, real consciousness is not superimposed here by the garbage of civilization.
The moment – between the actually existing nothingness and the reality that emerges from it – is the decisive factor for art and, above all, for his personal work.

2023 Group exhibition, gallery konsum163 – contemporary art gallery “Wilde Mischung eins”; Munich

Born in Trieste, Italy, Giulia Mouse initially studied film history in Bologna.
She was particularly impressed by a semiotics seminar with the famous writer Umberto Eco.
“Studying opened up my world and, above all, my horizons.”
At the end of the 1980s, the artist was involved in various theater projects, including the construction and painterly realization of stage sets in Bologna.
She then trained as a restorer in Imperia and studied painting at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rome under the abstract painter Anna Cirilli, who had a decisive influence on her.
The versatile artist acquired her unerring sense of color while working as a picture restorer.
The creative artist is also fascinated by digital applications.
Giulia Mouse lives and works in Rome – her work is traded internationally.
