It is about nothing less than a return to the pure form of photography. Gottfried Römer is a purist, an advocate of one-shot photography with a consistent renunciation of any digital post-processing or retouching. One shot, one picture. No filters, no soft focus, no Photoshop. Real light photography. Surrealistic fantasies, impressionist painting or expressionist and cubist color spaces captured with the camera, what’s it? Great, sparkling photography that requires skill in handling the camera. His aesthetic master photos are transparent, puristic, exciting and mind-open at the same time. Never seen like this before. These photographs are simply unique. The body of color, the style and the structure of the images are like pure painting. Monet, Degas, Kirchner and the other masters would have been delighted with them. Painto – the name of his Instagram account – symbolizes his claim in nomen est omen fashion. It merges the two genres of painting and photography into a newly perceived unity. Perhaps the world as it really is? Who knows for sure.

The pictorial portfolio comprises three subject areas: People, landscapes, cities – everything is in the typically Roman world of representation. Wonderful, elegiac light painting. The motifs dissolve like X-ray images, and Gottfried Römercreates his own extract from light and technique. “Significantly inspired by the late works of William Turner,” summarizes the artist. Intentional Camera Movement is the name of the technique he uses to create his oeuvre. The camera is moved precisely and with a steady hand during the exposure. The resulting deliberate streaking, the blurred and yet so coherent, is calculated. Gottfried Römer creates light images and thus gives photography back its authenticity – and he attaches great importance to this.

twelve - more than just a symbol.
The magical 12 beer lines.
Decisive and perfect.
The 12 is the symbol – the zero point of this transformation – like 12 o’clock as the separator of the day, usually symbolized by 12 beer lines, but also in many other forms of expression.
Because there is not just one reality.

"I paint according to the intention of my picture. Sometimes full of power, sometimes very devout. That's why painting always involves intensive preparation. The mood of the subject must be in you. Otherwise it won't be a painting.
mongi higgs
Mongi Higgs’ art condenses the “quantum foam” into a “reality” in which creation is revealed in its original form.
Luminous, clear and clean, real consciousness is not superimposed here by the garbage of civilization.
The moment – between the actually existing nothingness and the reality that emerges from it – is the decisive factor for art and, above all, for his personal work.

Gottfried Römer: It feels like the artist has always taken photographs, for many years in a very classical way – concrete and realistic.
The awakening to a new, different form of photography came about more or less by chance.
The trained special needs teacher is sitting on a train to Berlin, taking pictures during the journey – in motion.
Initially declared to be a reject, the resulting images grew on closer inspection and became increasingly important for the creative process.
The new art form is professionalized until it comes to the fore.
This is the story of Painto’s origins.
In 2019, the artist was awarded the Prize for Photography in Florence.
Gottfried Römer’s works can be seen regularly in his home town of Giessen as well as at various exhibitions in Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Paris, Bologna and many other cities.
Once a year, the photographer is drawn to Sylt, where he creates his typical yet very different longing images of the sea, mudflats and sky.
Cape Cod is also one of his favorite places to choose his motifs.
One thing is certainly also important when looking at his work: the artist generally ignores the mainstream, he is much more interested – as in his profession – in the special, the deviant.
His work is traded internationally.
