Image description of the artwork “SUNDOWNER”

In the play *Sundowner*, Christof Kindlinger unfolds his unmistakable visual language of overlapping swaths of color, spherical forms, and subtle transparency. The central, luminous orange seems to glide like a setting sun over a composition of blue, white, green, and red—a visual echo of natural phenomena, transformed into abstract painting. Kindlinger works with color-field painting techniques, yet his pictorial spaces are more fluid and dynamic. The transparency of the colors allows light itself to become the structure—a quality reminiscent of the light spaces of James Turrell’s or the atmospheric color transitions of Helen Frankenthaler . The geometry remains palpable but is permeated by the emotional power of color. The interplay of circular forms and bands of color creates a visual polyphony that seems almost musical. Here, Kindlinger’s affinity for Concrete Art is evident, as is his connection to poetic abstraction. “Sundowner” is not merely a composition, but a sense of space—sensual, still, and at the same time imbued with inner energy. The title refers to the moment of transition: from light to darkness, from day to dream. Kindlinger succeeds in translating this atmospheric shift into pure color—an ethereal moment captured in the painting.
