Luminosity Meets Structure: In ” Sunsquare,” a work by Christof Kindlinger, colored surfaces come together in a pulsating, almost musical interplay. The composition resembles a visual fugue—with overlapping, translucent layers of color that shift between transparency and intensity. A luminous red dominates the center—an almost spherical form embedded in a system of clearly defined rectangles, curves, and bands of color. The color palette ranges from cool turquoise tones to warm shades of yellow and orange.

Kindlinger, who is known for his “Art of the Color Joint,” combines influences from concrete art, color-field painting, and modernist musical thinking in his paintings. In their structure and precision, his works are reminiscent of artists such as Josef Albers or Mark Rothko, yet with a contemporary lightness and a keen sense of visual rhythm.

The color spaces Kindlinger creates are more than merely visual phenomena—they unfold a quiet yet powerful spatial effect that intuitively moves the viewer. *Sunsquare* is an example of his ability to balance order with sensual openness. The pictorial space appears like a luminous “ether”—a fleeting yet intensely perceptible continuum of color, form, and perception.
