To say it straight away, the metal artist Thomas Räpke is a purist.
At least that’s the case when confronted with his rectangular and spartan metal artworks.
But when you enter his Metallicum – as we call his studio and presentation space – for the first time, you will be enchanted by the abundance of geometric structures, glittering and patinated metals.
Partly illuminated from the inside and partly illuminated by the sun shining in through the large windows.
A universe of metal at right angles.
And in the middle of it all is the artist, dressed in black with traces of work on his hands, powerful and with a clear gaze.
A modern Eisenhans – the rational protagonist from Grimm’s fairy tale who creates so much emotion.

2023 Group exhibition, Galerie konsum163 – contemporary art gallery “SUMMERHOUSE ON MARS“ 2022 Group exhibition Art Bunker, B/E Benjamin Eck Galleries, Munich
“My father was a master weaver and therefore also a machine builder. That certainly rubbed off on me, both haptically and technically.”
Born in Oberammergau in 1965, he trained as a metalworker/toolmaker, worked as a journeyman for exactly one year and set up his own business with a Flex and a borrowed welding machine.
“I’ve been doing nothing but interiors for 35 years, working a lot with interior designers/architects and furniture makers. I’ve also always built furniture for myself.”
His successful company manufactures cubes with corners and edges for store fittings, exhibition stand construction and private homes.
In 2012, Thomas Räpke developed the idea of abstract, woven metal works of art – perfection is created from the very beginning.
The artist works in his studio in Munich and is traded internationally.
